Marketing Strategies

The following came to me in email. Just a good read

Subject:  Marketing Strategies
Professor at CBM was explaining marketing concepts:

You see a gorgeous girl at a party.
You go up to her and say, “I am very rich. Marry me!”
That’s Direct Marketing.

You’re at a party with a bunch of friends and see a gorgeous girl.
One of your friends goes up to her and pointing at you says, “He’s
very rich. Marry him.”
That’s Advertising.

You see a gorgeous girl at a party.
You go up to her and get her telephone number. The next day you call
and say “Hi, I’m very rich. Marry me.”
That’s Telemarketing.

You’re at a party and see a gorgeous girl. You get up and straighten your tie, you walk up to her and pour her a drink. You open the door for her, pick up her bag after she drops it, offer her a ride, and then say, “By the way, I’m very rich. Will you marry me?”
That’s Public Relations.

You’re at a party and see a gorgeous girl. She walks up to you and says, “You are very rich..”
That’s Brand Recognition.

You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and say, “I’m rich. Marry me” She gives you a nice hard slap on your face.
That’s Customer Feedback !!!!!

You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and say, “I am very rich. Marry me!” And she introduces you to her husband.
That’s demand and supply gap.

You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and before you say, “I am very rich. Marry me!” she turns her face towards you ————she is your wife! That’s competition eating into your market share

Count of Muslims in Indian Army

Sonia’s action proves she is anti-Indian, anti-Army and Anti-Muslim.

What a shameless Italian woman – disgrace to her country (not to mention India) and a mad woman to order the head count of Muslims in Indian Army for vote bank politics. May be she has some other motive: Break India – No she will fail. Consider the following facts of the proud Indian Army and it’s action in times of crisis. How the soldiers irrespective of religion have acted bravely and patriotically.

Indian Army officers and men have been welcomed many times by Muslims during the riots in recently in Ahmedabad and on many occasions. Several Muslim officers have commanded Hindu troops and done poojas and vice-versa Hindu commanders offer Namaz. The Indian Army has Maulvis and mosques as authorized components of military organization. Indian Army men are proud of its character as a truly professional, secular institution.

The soldier’s saying goes

“there are no atheists when the bombs begin to fall”

So every soldier is a believer, not a godless secularist. So every soldier whatever religion he belongs to owes his place to the Army.

He is a soldier – not a Muslim soldier, Sikh soldier, Christian soldier or a Hindu soldier.

But the country’s shame of the century, Sonia Gandhi sends a note to be circulated, says the CNN-IBN to take a head count of Muslims, so that more Muslims could join Army.

Quoting Gurumurthy from his article here

“Army is the most stable constitutional institution and Sonia in intent on breaking it making Muslims as pawns in this shameful game”

Gurmurthy’s complete article Sonia’s note the trigger behind Army headcountin The New Express dated Feb 18, 2006

65000 crores spent on Luxury items by Indian consumers - PTI

India has 1.6 million households earning over Rs.45 lakhs per anum and each of these spend Rs. 4 lakhs per anum. This is the result of a study made by Technopak Advisors Limited.

Categories that are accounted are – Jewellery 27%, clothing 16%, digital accessories 13%, time ware 8%, cosmetics and skincare 8%. Rest goes to car ownership and overseas travel.

This is in spite of the fact that organized retailing has taken off very lately in India.

I wish even if a small percentage of this amount is diverted Organized Farming and Village Growth, India could overtake China in many aspects. Sure someone will bell the cat and I am confident of Indian nature of donating / contributing to a worthy cause. Contentment and Peace with one self is the essence of our culture. And we are still aware of that and practice.

AD WARS are here to stay – 3-in-1 vs 5-in-1

Many famous Ad wars between soft drink giants, IT companies and consumer goods MNC’s have been witnessed. by us. Some are positive and some in bad taste. Who can forget the “Thumbs up” ads mocking Ajay Jadeja and other circkters to “Monkeys”. That was back in the late 90s.

The Thumbs up ads mocking PEPSI is one of my favorties. And there was another brad which was mocking Mountain Dew ads. One worthy mention would be “All mint no hole” from Nestle Polo. That was a witty tag one.

But the recent one is about the famous battle lost by ITC. The Advertising Standards Council of India has observed that an Ad by ITC was denigrating another product - Cycle Brand and in bad taste.

ITC introduced a five-in-one agarbathi and released Ad in electronic and print media. This Ad created an impression of the three-in-one Cycle brand to look unacceptable and consumers were being misled by the Ad campaign. Mr. Ranga Rao and sons leading agarbathi manufacturers files a case against ITC and won the battle.

I see this a good news for level playing field in the market. One small time Indian entrepreneur can boldly fight the giants like ITC develops a sense of confidence among the small players in the market.

Many years back the soap giant HLL afraid of downtrend sale in Surf sales due to Nirma, tried a dirty trick of filling sub-standard washing powder in Nirma packs and distributed them door-to-door. They were caught red-handed when the promoters came to the house of owner of Nirma. Actually the companies are not to be blamed – but the mean idea of sales managers behind the screen. Do they get promoted?

Queries on Blog writing, how to start

I had a plan to start blog long back – but you did it!! – This was one of the many comments I received by mails and phone calls. Well my answer is – it’s easy to start and that I will give all guidance. But the content has to be theirs. And not just start, write a few things and then keep quiet.

Bloggers know content is important. There is also a view – that content can be anything, but it must be interesting, new and attract visitors. Many VIPs and eminent men have started blogs. The varieties are countless and increasing each hour.

In olden days we used to pester out Patti (grandma) for short stories. And she would lovingly tell a tale. Then came magazines and the culture of story telling is almost dead. Some are trying to revive it through TV channels. And people went after wisdom to Gurus. Now Gurus come to your door steps and through Internet.

Communication was oral from one man to many. Then it was through books. Then, individual communication revolution thru’ E-mails.

And now again BLOG – but the fact is - how many will read? Only if I write and enjoy the article and give stunning news and stories people will visit often. So many things have to be learnt before starting a BLOG.

Of course – the simple steps of starting, maintaining – I will mail to people who have asked. And may write here also (is it of any use if I write the steps here?)

Blogging is at least better than watching TV where I hear others talking non-sense. Here people read the non-sense I write.

Most people are bothered by those passages of Scripture they do not understand, but the passages that bother me are those I do understand.
           - Mark Twain

I can give links for blogging resoruces, RSS and other tools. But a little Googling will be better way to find them.
