Childhood memories - Ek Aur Anek | Doordarshan Videos

Remember the good old days of pre-satellite era? The doordarshan dominated era? The logo Changing channels, what is that? We had only one channel, Doordarshan.

Although boring most of the times; I miss some good non-commercial short-films that doordarshan used to telecast. Satellite TV channels these days are too commercialized and can’t afford to waste even a second of air time for something thats good but non-profitable.

I saw a story on ek anek on timesnow tv yesterday on this program Brand equity . It had interviews with the writer, animator & sadhna sargam . Wanted to blog about that. Neenga mundikittenga!

Look closely: The 7 stars actually represent the Saptarishis and the several kids are in regional costumes symbolising national integration. Cute na?

  4. Ambimama said,

    April 4, 2006 @ 5:12 am

You would also notice that the animation is a very simple form of lines and shades type with no computer graphics or 3D gizmos. Simple yet very cute.

TV channels of today are certainly too commercialized and can’t even think of wasting precious air time with these public information short films.

I still remember those days when DD will have
“Sorry for the Break / Thadangaluku Varundhigirom”
running every now and then. That is lakhs of rupees lost!

The benefits of collaboration and teamwork beautifully expressed. In addition, the idea of broadening the commonality criteria to discover similarities is succintly presented. If we claim to be citizens of Earth and we all have something in common. Enjoyed watching this video that presents such great concepts, so fundamental to leadership and success, in a simple way. I remember watching this while growing up. However, re-watching it today made me appreciate its powerful message and explore its depth.

Rightly said Vikram, “Excess of everything is bad”

Used to crib and complain about DD everyday when they bore you with documentaries of Gandhi and Nehru. But when I look back today, they were not bad maybe… DD was not about just entertainment; it was a wholesome communication media. Being the only Television channel it understood its responsibility and focused on many things other than just MONEY.

    hi,
it was just so nostalgic. i remember how we used to wait for the weekends and all of us, from my dadaji to me, i was then a kid, would sit together and watch telivision.i remember one movie distinctly which was called ‘padosi’ and it was one of the most wonderful movie that i had seen on doordarshan, some 15-20 years back.
Vikram so aptly mentioned Mowgli ,tailspin and Uncle scruch………and we cd also add Sigma, malguddi days, stoneboy……..
i still miss those days. I want to go back to those days. Things were simple but much more meaningful.
it is probably silly to even think that television can bring people togetherin today’s context when it does the opposite.
but this was good! a good peep in d good old days!

    Ambimama… good one.

Also, music is by Vasant Desai. See the commitment!
The tune is cleverly set in multiple ragas with simple rustic intruments and cute child singing. Sadhna Sargam? Wow.

In fact to watch all the documentaries that ever came on DoorDarshan, go to Films Division Website . You should fine modt of them here. This is where I spend my free time. Low resolution videos, but worth millions, I would say.

Hey, I am new to Ambimama and came across trying to google for the good old films division cartoon films.

Really, we all grew watching these films which indeed did a good job of captivating the audience and spreading the messages they wanted to send across. And yes used to love them and continue to preserve memories of that DD era.

I’m trying to search for the “Tree of Unity” video like the other members of this blog have already requested, but nobody seems to have it (at least there is no response). I am also looking for the cartoon film which had the message of keeping the city clean. Anybody remembers this film starring a father and son wanting to spend some time in the park but not able to do so becaue of continuous littering by neighbours, etc. The father goes crazy and starts kicking the litter dumped on the streets, back to their respective places or origin.
Boy that was hilarious and I still can’t keep from smiling after I remember that scene.

Thank you ambimama for refreshing these memories and felt warm to know that the members probably my age, feel that the present day tube is much commercialized to find time and desire to air such films again.

    Cheers!

seeing and listening ti the video made my eyes rather misty…i’m in my late 50s now…it brought back pleasant memories of the early 80s and 90s when my nieces and then my own 3 children were small kids…whenever this particular video played on DD, they would come running from wherever they were and sit glue eyed in front of the idiot box till the song played itself out, many a time singing alongwith the very very cute and charming child-girlish voice in the video (which i learn is that of sadhana sargam of Snehidane/Alaipayuthe fame…wow… i’m sure my nieces and children will find this pleasantly surprising)…by the way, my nieces/children are all grown up now…in their 20s and 30s…thank you very much ambimama…you have made my (to)day…and now it’s my turn to do so and take my nieces and children down on a nostalgia trip which, i’m sure, they’ll cherish forever…thanks once again…bye
