The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and The Americans
ONLY TWO DIALOGUES WILL BE TAKEN FROM THE FILM – FOR WHAT AMERICA WAS, IS AND THEY’RE NATURE.
There is no Holy words or worlds. Only two dialogues are enough to know about American culture and their success.
It was not east. It was the most difficult thing in History – Creation of UNITED STAES OF AMERICA. Though I am an Indian and hate Western culture especially the American ones, I still love America, for their bravery, open talks, honesty, (non) and simplicity in standard of living. Yes they can afford anything to buy – on credit card(s)!!
NOW TO THE TWO FAMOUS DIALOGUES
If you want to shoot, shoot – don’t talk!!
These are words of the character by Ugly (Eli Walla). This is a famous dialogue in the film mentioned at the start. The situation the. Preparedness for danger, (Ugly is hunted and to be shot). Ugly is enjoying a clean bath in a tub in a motel and suddenly the man enters who is after Ugly to kill him, finds him and because he is in a bathtub he thinks, he is sure to shoot him. So he is casual and raises the gun and talks of various ugly things done to him by Ugly. Ugly coolly shoots him from them bathtub (he is prepared for any danger even while taking bath and has gun loaded and ready to shoot) – So That is.
The Wild West is all about Preparedness for Danger and No Preaching or unwanted dialogues!! The same logic continues today in the Practical, Politician, Businessmen or the common men. May be Rome was built in a day, but never America. It was a nation formed, founded on firm Ethics, Principle and they still follow to this day.
Now look at one of dialogues of Good Clint Eastwood)
‘What if I miss my aim?’
For those who have seen the movie they understand the humour, seriousness and the perfection and authenticity of Good (All three are after wealth – treasure hunt).
For others here is the situation:
Ugly is a wild west man and always a wanted criminal by Sheriff for some dollars. Good (Clint Eastwood) agrees into a novel agreement with Ugly. That he will catch and hand over him to the Sheriff and collect the reward money. And go away.
The Sheriff will announce all the crimes done by Ugly and order him to be hanged. Now comes the agreement. Good from a distance with Rifle shoot at the rope meant for hanging Ugly at the right time, make Ugly fall exactly (or make him run sometimes) on his Horse’s back. Then both go to a far away place and share the reward,
Being Ugly, Eli Walla will speak very bad language that he is doing everything, not afraid, takes pain and that Good only shoots at the rope!! So why should Good get half of the reward?
The Good will say ’What if I miss my aim;?
Even though I am an Indian I love American’s practical behaviour and straight talk.
I really love the West, which is what America even now. WIN/WIN Policy. During my college days I used to read many western novels and used to wonder about their money and Gold hunt, Cowboys establishing farm houses. Their bravery and shoot for right purpose.
If it is for a bad purpose – no dialogues. Like Bad’s character who has no mercy for and only after money. Win/Lose Policy.
I do not know American history, Civil war, Sheriffs etc. but many films that I have seen gives FAIR Opportunity to the Clever, Good and Courageous people from anywhere in the world. And being The Good, The Bad and The Ugly they also know how to protect their country and be creative. They create a product to sell to the World.
Ford, Carnegie Einstein and Roosevelt are the cowboys and the GOOD, BAD and UGLY ones (Sorry there are more!!).
I am afraid of the character Good (Clint Eastwood) only. The name is given as Good. Where as he is the most practical, clever, ruthless (against the Bad and Ugly). And Good is what America is made of.
So America has to be understood carefully. China has understood. Japan has understood.. And so many developed countries. I find India has it’s. Own way handling Good, Bad and Ugly.
But now there is a new face. We know it. We will shoot them before they even think of touching the case of the Gun. Not in the military sense. May be even that.
But I am more worried about the Arab, Islamic and other nations who know nothing of the way USA was formed; it’s history, Boston Tea Party, Wild West. They enjoy all that inventions and military power given to the World by Americans. But want to destroy them and the Nations supporting, in the name of Religion, forgetting other Great contributions given to the world by Americans.
In the History, Dharma has always won. Not Violence or terrorism.
Wherever, Whatever they are, if they use wrong methods and threat, think can create fear and destroy innocent and even the mighty ones, just by wrongly interpreted faith in religion afraid or to be afraid of to talk straight it (Their cause of Jihad) will fail BY ALL MEANS. Jihad is not planting bombs in BOMBAY SUNURBAN TRAINS. We are not afraid. We know enough methods to tackle you. But we believe in SARVE JANA SUKINO BAVANTHU (All the beings in the World should live in Harmony and Peace) – No Brahma Astram. Which means once we get angry you have no place to go.
Your own people of violence will turn against you and end in killing each other. Dharma is easy to understand but difficult to preach or even follow.

I am confused about the Dharma mentioned at the end of the article. Dhrama can be interpreted in many ways and has many meanings depending on the situation. All religions have Dharma,in the sense of “WHAT YOU SHOULD DO AND NOT” - Like Pray five timesor Go to Church on Sundays!! Of course apart from these ‘Love thy neighbour, Do not steal etc are there.
But the HIndu Dharma goes beyons all this Rules and Sermons.
To understand you must either know Vedas or Ramayana and Mahabharatha wherein many charcaters are thete who demonstrate what is Dharma.
It is said as a challenge - You cannot create a new character for a story/drama/play, other than those existing in Mahabharatha. All the permutaions and comniations ate there. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, The Amercians, The Arabs whatever nation they belong to or the Buddhists or what ever religion you may belomg to, or even the Film World - YOU CAN NEVER CREATE A CHARACTER beyond the ones existing in Mahabhartah.
In fact I can say Hamlet’s famous “TO BE OR NOT TO BE’ is a very simple version of Arjuna’s doubt in the strat of the battlein Kurukshetra.
There are many things from Shakespear that resembles Mahabhartha chracters and monlogues. - but not as powerfuls as the ones in Mahabharatha.
Shakepear is simple in creting words that have great philosophical meaninds. Like wise Mahabhartama whic has 700 hundered couplets ‘The GITA’, the entire Hindu philosophy for the entire mankind to be in peace. Its a pratcal and applies to the present worls. - NO confusion like Jihad being mis-interpreted. LOVE is the ultimate message of GITA.

I truly agree to your comments. I am also a die hard american supporter and the wild west cowboy culture. I admire that era and try to follow their culture.
Please mail me back. I think we can be good friends.
