US Consulate Bombay has done a great job…
A few days back there was news that Amte, a great social worker from Maharashtra was denied a US visa due to his his economy status.
Amercians have a feeling that to do community service (social work as it is called here in India) one needs a lot of money. On the contrary in India to do social work you need a strong mind, faith and above all mercy in your heart.
Once your goal is known to the people, money flows in automatically. People take care of you.
Maharashtra association in USA had sponsored Amte and wanted to honour him. He had been doing great work for 33 years helping the leprosy affected and poor people creating employment opportunities. He himself gets an honorium of Rs.3000/- per month. This amount sure is not accepatable and the US Consulate applied their rules and denied him a visa.
Then the Association explained and the Bombay Consulate apolozised and delivered the visa to his home in Nagpur which is several kms away! That is a fantastic job!
But today’s news item says two top men in Senate are trying to pressurize the US government in denying Hi-B visas to employees of Wipro and leading IT companies. This is because the skilled Americans are denied jobs.
I really cannot understand this. This means Americans themselves admit they are not as skilled as the Indians. And in a project the team which is doing it in order to complete must go to the spot (USA, UK or any where in the World) and complete the job. Suddenly no new face can enter and complete the job!
I have seen many oil companies in Gulf allowing many Europeans from abroad and complete the projects. Even in India one can see experts from abroad coming and completing the on-going projects. So what is wrong in our experts going there?
Sure the Senate and US government must understand this simple aspect!

Not often do you get to see US apologizing to someone. Kudos to those who made this happen and made the states realize their mistake. Neatly done.
