Oxford University Press and namma Bangaluru
The Concise Dictionary World Place Names, 2006 released by the Oxford Press mentions Bangalore as a land of Bengalis and that Kempe Gowda belonged to Hoysala Dynasty. The Times of India promptly reported this yesterday in its daily and followed up by sending an E-mail. The Oxford Press responded immediately by freezing the book stocks and sending a sorry note for the errors.
That really tells the professionalism of the people running that business. Openly admitting a mistake is rare to find. They have also agreed to have a meeting with the Government officials and print the correct details as given.
Our politicians interfere in the content of text books and twist the History and Geography at their whims and fancy. And how many cities have changed their names due to political reasons – like Madras to Chennai, Bombay to Mumbai, Calcutta to Kolkata and now Bangalore to Bengaluru!
It was the Germans during World War II who propagated the false idea of Aryan and Dravidian culture. And that Indians now in India migrated to India. This resulted in British dividing India on North and South with Dravidians belonging to South. And we still believe in that baseless theory! The recent research by archaeologists around the World have found out there was no Aryan Dravidian culture at all. There was only one culture – Indian and Indians were here from time unknown!
The UK, USA and all countries around the World have accepted this fact! But our politicians still try to exploit us using this baseless and useless fact. I would like to stop these party men who belong to these political parties that claim to work for the “Dravidians” - Do you really know the meaning of the word Dravidian? Do you really know what it refers to?
Welcome to India. Politicians using useless references from history and every other possible thing to their advantage!
