Merry Christmas

All around me loudspeakers are blasting Lord Iyyappa songs. I had gone to Iyyappa shrine with devotion and my Iyyappa devotes used to cheer me up saying that I should say Sharaam Iyyappa in a loud voice. And I used to say and gain divine strength to climb the mountains. There were lots of Christians too coming for the darshan of Lord Iyyappa, singer Jesudoss being one of them. And many Muslims too and we used to pray at Vavar samy. I think only in our country such devotion and Bakthi exists. To people who are visiting Lord Iyyappa such blaring loud speakers may be necessary but sure it does hurts the ears of others. We Indians are tolerant people but sure on this Merry Christmas let us lower the volume of the speakers and increase the brightness of the stars that we hang up outside our homes.

In my neighbourhood some Christians some days ago celebrated their new house inauguration. They had put up speakers with cinema music blasting at full sound throughout night for two days. They must understand the neighbours’ listening capacity too!

TATA Aria video review with pictures

TATA Aria was unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. Touted as a cross between a sedan and a SUV, the Aria is the most expensive car that has ever come out of Tata’s gates.

The concept of Crossover is not new to the Indian Market. Ford has tried this concept earlier with the Fusion (a cross between a hatch and a SUV) and failed quite miserably.Vehicles like the Chevrolet Captiva and the Mitsubishi Outlander are others cases in point which haven’t really set the ball rolling.

Tata Aria is available in four variants: Aria Pleasure, Aria Prestige, Aria Prestige Leather and Aria Pride. All the models of Tata Aria are equipped with disc brakes in all wheels plus comes with all time 4 wheel drive system. Both these features are first for a multi utility vehicle in this segment in Indian market. The Tata Aria is being made available, to begin with, in 25 cities through 69 dealerships.

Tendulkar is a complex character

I was not happy the way Tendulkar played in the last overs of the first test match between India and South Africa which was won by SA by an innings. He got his 50th Test Hundred and all the Indian media is showing interviews and Statistics of his feat. But I am not happy the way he played for the Indian team. I think he was rather selfish. I am unable to understand him as a character, though he is the best batsman though not comparable to Don Bradman, even though Don himself may admit Sachin is better. Don scored three centuries in day whereas Sachin has not even scored three hundreds in test match.

There are many things to compare with Ricky Ponting in his 39 test centuries and under great pressure as Captain. Ponting thinks for his team and brought back the great bowler who took nine wickets and won the last Ashes test match. Thinking for his team rather than himself – Tendulkar has never done that. Take any century by Tendulkar – it shows only his brilliance and has not won for the team. Sachin batted for a record and not for his team. Hussey and Laxman have saved and won in the tail in many situations. Though it is not winning here, but the quality of a man to fight and Sachin never did that. I cannot agree with the notion that it only works when the tailenders show that their good for it.

I think Soccer is a more team game than cricket!

Ponting to retire - why?

I am tried of all cricket pundits asking Ponting to retire from cricket or resign from captaincy or do both. Ponting is the second best batsman in the world, second to none other than our own Sachin Tendulkar. With all due credit to Sachin, Ponting has the additional burden of captaincy and despite that he is performing well.

Now that the Australians have won the third test and levelled the Ashes series, let us want and watch if Ponting can come back from behind and win the Ashes for Australia. That would be a big morale booster for the Australian cricket team when they come to India to defend their ODI worldcup title.

from Cricinfo:

  • Australia wasted no time in levelling the Ashes series with a crushing 267-run victory at the WACA as Ryan Harris tore out the remaining resistance with a Test-best 6 for 47 to humble England. He finished off the visitors in a hurry as they were blown away in 10 overs on the fourth morning to set up a potentially thrilling conclusion to this series over the Christmas and New Year period.

Harris collected the rewards that eluded him in Adelaide as he finished with nine in the match, while Mitchell Johnson claimed the other wicket to fall as he, too, picked up nine. Johnson’s revival in this match reflects Australia’s upward curve, leaving England with much to ponder before the MCG Test starts on Boxing Day.

This was Australia’s first Test victory in six matches since beating Pakistan at Lord’s. It gave Ricky Ponting, who didn’t take the field due to a broken little finger, the perfect 36th birthday present and will ease the pressure on him for the time being although he faces a race to be fit for Melbourne.

James Anderson was the first to depart when he played back to Harris and lost his off stump and will have left with Australian chirping ringing in his years. Ian Bell and Matt Prior were England’s last chance of extending the context, but after a few more elegant cover drives Bell tried to work a straight ball through the leg side and was trapped straight in front. He asked for a review, but it was a hollow gesture.

Two deliveries later Harris had his five when Prior could only fend the ball towards gully where Michael Hussey, another who has enjoyed an outstanding Test, dived to his right to hold a sharp chance. The roars of the Australians, both the players and supporters, were deafening as the momentum of this series continued to swing towards the hosts in dramatic fashion.

Graeme Swann predictably had a swing but it didn’t last long when he inside-edged a drive at Johnson and the final wicket went to Harris when Steven Finn fended to third slip. It was a clinical conclusion, a reminder of how Australia used to finish off Test matches and they were unrecognisable from the Test thrashed in Adelaide.

From being 5 for 69 on the first day this has been one of finest Test turnarounds in recent times and they’ll take a huge surge of confidence into the next clash. However, both teams will remember that a similar momentum-shift occurred in 2009 when Australia won at Headingley before England secured the Ashes at The Oval. Despite the margin of victory in this, and the previous match, these two teams are closely matched and the series could turn into a classic.
