The iPod Flea Ad Spoof

David Pogue has arranged for a special guest video artist: Scott Kelby, Photoshop maven. Last week, as he keynoted his own Mac Design conference, he played a hilarious Apple ad spoof for something called the iPod Flea, which I’m pleased to offer in its Web debut.

‘Undeclared bandh’ in Bangalore

An “undeclared bandh” was observed in many parts of Bangalore on Wednesday, as a mark of respect to Kannada thespian Rajkumar, who passed away on Wednesday afternoon. Shops and business establishments in several areas downed their shutters as the news of the actor’s death spread. Vehicular traffic also thinned in parts of the city.

Rajkumar is a revered figure in Karnataka, where he is a household name.

A salute to Dr. Rajkumar

Dr. Rajkumar, the veteran actor of Kannada cinema, passes away. 2 years short of his 80th birthday. What a celebration that would have been.

It’s a great loss not just to the Kannada film fraternity but also to people of Karnataka.

Dr. Rajkumar was the superstar in the Kannada film firmament but he also possessed rare qualities that shone through like beams in darkness - his simplicity & humility. Perhaps, to the common man, these were his most endearing qualities; apart from his total dedication to his family.

Shane Warne’s Best Eight Deliveries - Video Collection

Shane Warne

Shane Keith Warne (born September 13, 1969 in Ferntree Gully, Victoria, Australia), is an Australian cricketer, and captain of Hampshire. He is one of the greatest leg spin bowlers in history — many say the greatest. In 2000, he was selected by a panel of cricket experts as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Century. Since October 2004, he has held the record for the most wickets taken by any bowler in Test cricket, and in August 2005, he became the first bowler to take 600 Test wickets. He has, however, been plagued by scandals off the field throughout his playing career.

This video is a collection of the best of eight wickets bagged by the Aussie legend. He rates and comments about each one of them himself. My personal favorties is the Graham Gooch dismissal and the 300th wicket for warne in the form of a super top spinner to dismiss Jacque Kallis.

Full Name: Shane Keith Warne
Born: 13th Sep 1969, Ferntree Gully, Victoria
Age: 36
Role: Leg Break Googly Bowler / Right Hand Batsman
Major Teams: Australia, Victoria, Hampshire, ICC World XI.
Test Debut: Australia v India at Sydney, 3rd Test, 1991/92
ODI Debut: Australia v New Zealand at Wellington, 3rd ODI, 1992/93

Gifted. Controversial. Successful. Philanderer. Insecure. Flashy. Champion.

These words - and more - describe Shane Warne the man and embody Shane Warne the cricketer. He is larger than his own life even and for all his faults, Warne typifies the cricketer we’d all like to be; he has a rare talent, is mentally strong, competitive and, in the image of past champions like Botham, never gives in.

The famous (infamous?) under-arm delivery - Aus vs NZ

Underarm bowling

An infamous incident involving an underarm delivery occurred on February 1, 1981 when Australia were playing New Zealand in a One-day International, the third of five matches in the final of the Benson & Hedges World Series Cup.

New Zealand required a six to tie the match from the final ball, with eight wickets down. The Australian captain (Greg Chappell) ordered the bowler (his brother, Trevor Chappell) to bowl underarm to avoid the possibility that the No. 10 New Zealand batsman (Brian McKechnie) would score a six from the last ball to tie the match.

Australia won the game but the New Zealand batsmen marched off in disgust and since that day the underarm bowling incident has been a source of discussion, both heated and jocular, between Australians and New Zealanders.

As a direct result of the incident, underarm bowling was banned in limited overs cricket by the International Cricket Council as not within the spirit of the game

Javed Mianded - Famous Frong Jump

It was on in 1992 that Javed Miandad mimicked More’s appealing by jumping up and down like a frog - this incident would sure be somewhere at the top of the long list of memorable Indo-Pak ODI moments. Enjoy the clip.

Javed was having a lot of problems with his back at that point of time in his career. He was using the flick and the cut to good effect but was gingerly driving the ball through covers or mid-off. So I kept egging on our bowlers to pitch the ball up because he would not be able to step forward. The whole idea was to frustrate him and get him out. I could see that it was working on his mind. It was against that backdrop that the frog-dance incident took place.

That incident was very funny when I saw the pictures and on television later. It was surprising that despite his back injury he could jump four feet in the air to imitate me!
