We had freedom

I received a forward on life in the 70’s to ‘90s, with lots of pictures of the Ads, products, TV shows on DD and playing more. I find in the recent years school and college life more strict and stressful. I could not add the pictures now, may be later on.
Here is the forward:
How did one survive growing up in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s?
We had no mobile phones, but we always managed to find each other. How? No one knows.
We lost teeth, broke arms & legs, we got cuts and bruises and bloody noses, nobody complained as we had so much fun, it wasn’t anybody’s fault, only ours.

Cycling was like a breath of fresh air. No safety helmets, knee pads or elbow pads, with plenty of cardboards between spokes to make it sound like a motorbike. When thirsty we only drank tap water, bottled water was still a mystery. We kept busy collecting bits & pieces so we could build all sort of things and we were fearless on our bikes even when the brakes failed going downhill.

We ate everything in sight, cakes, bread, chocolate, ice-cream, sweet sugary drinks, yet, we stayed skinny by fooling around.
We had no seatbelts, no airbags and sitting in the back of a truck was a treat. Our baby prams had the most gorgeous lead based colours. No such thing as tamper proof bottle tops.

Opening kitchen cupboards was a breeze, as safety locks were unheard off.
We did not have Play Stations, MP3, Nintendo’s, I-Pods, Video games, 99 Cable TV channels, DVD’s, Home Cinema, Mobile phones, Home Computers, Laptops, Chat-rooms, Internet, etc . BUT, we had REAL FRIENDS! We called on friends to come out to play, never rang the doorbell, and just went around the back.

We loved being let loose in the big bad world, without bodyguards.
We played with sticks and stones, played cowboys and Indians, doctors and nurses, hide and seek, soccer games, over and over again.
When we failed our exams we were given a second chance by simply repeating the same grade, without visiting psychiatrists, psychologists or counsellors.
Such were the days.

We were showing off how tough we are, by how high we could climb trees & then jumping down. It was great fun. We could stay out to play for hours, as long as we got back before dark, in time for dinner. We walked to school, or sometimes we even rode our bike.
And if one of us was lucky to find a 1 litre coca cola bottle we all had swag from it & guess what? Nobody picked up any germs.
We had freedom, success, disappointments and responsibilities. Most of all, we learned to respect others.

Are YOU from that generation?? Then, email this to all your friends from the same era. Maybe this message will help them forget the stress that surrounds us these days.
And just for a few moments puts a smile to their faces as they remember what life was really like in the good old days.

Save Paper! Save Trees! Before printing, think about the environment.

Gymnema the wonder drug for Diabetes

Several human studies conducted on gymnema for treatment of diabetes have shown significant reduction in blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (an index of blood sugar control) and insulin requirements (so insulin therapy could be reduced). The drug acts indirectly through stimulation in insulin secretion off the pancreas, as it has no direct action on the carbohydrate metabolism.
High doses of the dried gymnema leaves will help to repair the cellular damage that causes diabetes (by helping to regenerate the insulin producing beta-cells in the pancreas).

Gymnema or Gymnema Sylvestre is often referred to as “sugar destroyer” and has been used in Ayurveda since the 6th century B. C. It has been shown to have a regenerative effect on pancreatic beta cells while curbing a person’s craving for sweets.
The Hindi name for Gymnema is Gur-mar, Tamil name “Sakkarai Kolli”.
Gymnema is typically recommended for people who have trouble taming their sweet tooth and who are either borderline diabetic or waging a war against Type II diabetes. When there a high level of blood sugar, the body produces more insulin, which is the hormone that helps shuttle blood sugar into the cells of the body. But as too much insulin is produced, the cells become resistant to it - a condition known as insulin resistance. When that happens, blood sugar remains high. Many people who have insulin resistance gain weight, no matter what their diet. In such cases, Gymnema may help by improving the cells’ uptake of blood sugar and helping the body utilize it.
Gymnema has the ability to lower blood sugar levels, improve the body’s ability to metabolize and respond to insulin and regenerate the pancreas, although results depend on how advanced the condition is the extent to which medical management and monitoring is essential. Gymnema decreases insulin needs by 45-75% and helps lower blood sugar and triglycerides. Further, gymnema reduces craving for sugar and blocks the ability to taste sweets for 3 hours, although it does not completely destroy all sense of taste. In type II diabetes, gymnema improves insulin’s effects and can even substitute for oral sugar-lowering drugs.

Take the advice of your specialist - Do not opt for self medication.
It is advisable to use caution when taking Gymnema along with other pharmaceutical medication (oral hypoglycemics or insulin) for diabetes. The combination of gymnema and these medications can lower blood-sugar levels to potentially risky levels. If you are already taking diabetes medication, it is extremely important to work with a physician before supplementing with gymnema because the physician needs to closely monitor blood-sugar levels. In many instances, your doctor will need to lower the dosage of the pharmaceutical medication you are on.

This wonder drug is already in the market. Let me check with specialist in Chennai and come back to you.

Daily Life Plan for Diabetics

I approach a Doctor only if there is physical pain. But diabetes has started giving me pains and by the time I have realized the cure is becoming difficult. The physicians suggest diet and exercise. Most importantly, I have to change my Life style. I have to develop new healthy habits and forget the old ones.
Sure, Diabetes is a product of the Kali Yuga. Long long ago the King and the Poor had the same fibre rich ‘Koozh’ (Porridge) as daily food. They had fruits and raw vegetables in plenty, divinity in their thoughts and respected the food. They had a clean and contended heart full of joy and did not fear physical ailments. People did not have self starting vehicles, cinema houses and calorie rich dishes and many cafes serving them.

The disease of Diabetes and its symptoms are clearly explained in the Ayurveda and herbs and diet control to address the problem. Exercise was not a problem for them as their daily life had enough of it. Specific physical postures are mentioned in the Yoga to cure the ‘Madhumeha’ or the Diabetes.

Somewhere during the last 100 years we had developed the habits of office going and sedentary life style with a food intake of polished rice, refined sugar, coffee and smoking habits. In the recent years we have started more restaurant and fast food intake, mindless drinking of carbonated drinks and gulping of sweets, ice-creams and candies made in refined sugar. Finally the most deadly habit of watching screens of TV or Computer for hours. The result is India has the maximum people suffering from diabetes and the complications.

Apart from taking medicines the Daily Life has to be planned with walking not just for the sake of it, but buying daily needs like newspaper, milk, vegetables and paying bills by walk, using the staircases instead of lifts. Climbing hills of deities with a sincere prayer which will give me healing power! I must learn the art of relaxing and laughing also!

Mouli and Boskey in Poi Solla Porom

There have been remakes from Hindi to Tamil and the other way. But with a special touch and simple comedy the film Poi Solla Porom is running full house and is a silent hit with no big promo, TV and Media Ads. Just the smiles and laughter of viewers and saying “Watch it on the screen, You would love it”.
The film is a huge success due to the great comedian Mouli, supported by Boskey, Cochin Hanifa and Delhi Ganesh.
Poi Solla Porom is a remake of the Hindi movie Khosla ka Ghosla.

Right & Wrong Emotions during a Marriage

We always tend to react to situations, comments and opinions of others. We realize late that our reaction by way of words, curses and action hurt us more by way of guilt and brooding over it. Of course it wounds the people to whom we react. We continue doing the mistakes by justifying the reaction because we cannot admit that we are wrong. The reaction may be on the road while walking or driving and the other person may be right or wrong. Or it may be a family or social function.
There are high emotional scenes in South Indian Marriages due to misunderstanding and improper planning. We forget that it is a very auspicious occasion of man and woman coming together. We concentrate on petty issues and show our wealth, dress and knowledge of latest news.
The previous generation had undergone a tremendous patience in caring for the guests, relatives and friends and fulfilling even the smallest wish of in-laws. This has given them a training lesson in life to deal with people and life. Thanks to the modern facilities and total marriage conduction by professional people in Catering, marriages and social functions are now a more enjoyable event.
I have personal experience in coming across excellent catering services in Chennai. They are efficient in conducting any type of Indian marriages, like South Indian classified into Thanjavur (most difficult people to satisfy), Andhra, Kerala and North Indian marriages like Gujarathi, Marwadi and Bombay style. They have well dressed staff for making, serving specialized food items, receiving the in-laws and guests, prepare instant snacks, coffee, fruit juices, pan, Rangoli, arrange accomodation and transport and traditional and cine music. God Bless them!
